Odessa is a small, quaint city located on the northwestern
shore of the Black Sea. Famous for its diverse culture, superb architecture,
and, most of all, ingenuity of its inhabitants, the
city has long been
considered the art capital of the former Soviet Union.
It was in the middle of 1980’s, when Anya (Russian diminutive for
Anna), like many young Odessans enthralled by the city’s artistic
vibe, decided to follow the footsteps of Pushkin and Akhmatova, Kandinsky
and Aivazovsky. It had not been until several years later, however, when
Anya’s extraordinary talents were discovered by her family and she
was accepted into the renowned Grekov Art School. Subsequently, under the
close guidance of Anya’s mentor and long time family friend Nina
Fedorova, Anya was able to fully realize herself as an
artist.
As much as Odessa can be credited with Anya’s admiration for Art,
it was her family’s support and encouragement that made the young
artist’s dreams come true. Constant family adventures to various
remote parts of Russia had profoundly affected Anya, and are still
depicted in many of her recent works. And what could be more inspirational
than long walks with the best friend and most ardent critic Nord!!
In 1997 Anya moved to London, Ontario where her talents were widely recognized
and work shown in numerous exhibitions and art shows throughout the country.
Anya currently resides in beautiful Vancouver, where she combines her life long passion for art and nature by serving as an adventure guide.
